Eidsvoll Big Band

This is the website of Eidsvoll Big Band, a Norwegian big band. This English page is the only English page on this site, and all the other links on this page link to Norwegian pages. History

  • established autumn 1985
  • musical leader since march 2006 Marius Tobias Hoven, tromboneplayer and freelance musician. Born in Kongsberg and educated in Kristiansand. Member of the group Cristiansands String Swing Ensemble. Long experience as composer, conductor, and musician.
  • wide repertoire covering classics like Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Glenn Miller, Norwegian composers/arrangers as Jens Wendelboe, Lars Erik Gudim, Frode Thingnæs, Geir Lysne and Frode Alnæs and new American composers as Maynard Ferguson, Bobby Shew and Don Menza
  • released its first CD May 17th 2002, with an exciting blend of Norwegian traditional music and jazz. Soloists: The renown folk singer Sondre Bratland, Stein Austrud (keyboard), Frode Berg (bass), Arve Henriksen (trumpet), Stian Carstensen (accordion) and Frank Brodahl (trumpet).   • frequently doing concerts and gigs, often using professional soloists
  • several times participated in the most recognized jazz-festivals: Molde, Kongsberg and Oslo – participated 13 times at The Big Band Festival ("Storbandfestivalen") in Sandvika
  • played at the most famous jazzclubs in Oslo. Oslo Jazzhus, Smuget and Blå
  • also playing concerts in churches. Sacred Concert No 2 by Duke Ellington, concert with Sigvart Dagsland and Iver Kleive and on tour with Sondre Bratland, Stein Austrud and Arve Henriksen
  • undertake almost any kind of musical tasks
